Thailand connected: Bangkok to the islands

Thailand has three big networks — AIS, TrueMove and dtac. Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket have excellent coverage including 5G, and the low local infrastructure costs keep eSIM plans relatively cheap too.

On the islands — Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Koh Samui — main beaches and towns have good network, the wild side of the island and the jungle less so. Trekking up north (Pai, the village trails around Chiang Mai) you'll hit stretches with no signal — like any mountainous region.

Your phone is the wallet, the map and the translator

In Thailand the phone works hard: Grab for rides, Google Translate with tuk-tuk drivers, maps in Bangkok's alleys, ferry bookings between islands. Without data every one of those gets several times harder — with data it all just flows.

How do you install and activate?

Install the eSIM on Wi‑Fi before your flight, and turn on data roaming only after landing. Full iPhone and Android guide — on the How it works page.

Practical tips for Thailand

  • Grab is the safe, cheap way around the cities — the fare is fixed up front, no meter arguments.
  • Book ferries and domestic flights ahead on apps like 12Go — prices climb as dates approach.
  • In rainy season (May–October) check the forecast before a boat day — island ferries cancel in storms.

Traveling beyond Thailand?

If Thailand is just one stop on your route, a regional package covers several countries with a single eSIM — install once, cross borders freely.

Frequently asked questions

Is there signal on islands like Koh Phangan and Koh Tao?
Yes, towns and main beaches have good coverage. Secluded beaches and the island interior are weaker — you'll be fine at the Full Moon Party, maybe not in a quiet hut on the far side of the island.
How much data for three weeks in Thailand?
Travelers who navigate, message and upload photos run about 1GB a day. For three weeks 20GB is a comfortable budget; if you also work from the road or stream, go bigger or take a daily-unlimited plan.
When should I install the eSIM for Thailand?
Install your Thailand plan over Wi‑Fi before you fly. Validity usually starts when the eSIM first connects to a network in Thailand. There are currently 13 plans available, from ₪13.
Do Thailand plans support hotspot?
Many Thailand packages support hotspot / tethering. Check the plan card labels before checkout — especially if you will share connectivity with family.
Which networks will I use in Thailand?
Plans for Thailand run on DTAC, TrueMove H, AIS, True Move. The exact list appears on each plan card, so you know which network you will connect to before you buy.
Can I top up after data runs out in Thailand?
If your Thailand plan supports top-up, you can add data from your order page without installing a new eSIM. Check top-up options in your account after purchase.
Will the Thailand eSIM work on my phone?
Your device must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Use the device checker on the homepage before buying a Thailand plan if you are unsure.
How much data do I need for a trip to Thailand?
For most travelers, 1–2GB per day covers navigation, WhatsApp and photos. If you upload stories, take video calls or work on the road, plan higher. The data calculator on our site gives an estimate based on your habits.
Does my home SIM keep working alongside the eSIM?
Yes. The eSIM sits next to your regular SIM, so your home number and WhatsApp keep working as usual. Just turn off data roaming on your home line so browsing goes through the travel plan instead of expensive roaming.
What if I have no signal after landing in Thailand?
First make sure Data Roaming is on for the eSIM line and that it is selected for mobile data. Still nothing? Pick a network manually in settings. And if you get stuck, our support answers on WhatsApp 24/7.
